
Black Day for Egyptian Football: Al Ahly Joins Pyramids After Champions League Quarter-Final Exit to Esperance
Esperance Sportive de Tunis secured their place in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League, following a repeat victory over hosts Al Ahly of Egypt with a 3-2 scoreline in the second leg of the quarter-finals. This confirmed their superiority after a 1-0 win in the first leg.
Al Ahly had initially taken the lead in the tenth minute through Mahmoud Hassan "Trézéguet." However, the Tunisian side staged a comeback in the second half, turning the game around with two goals from Danho Florian and Mohamed Tougai in the 68th and 78th minutes, respectively.
Al Ahly refused to concede defeat on their home turf, managing to equalize in the final minutes. Yet, Esperance struck again in the dying seconds, with Hamza Jelassi adding a third goal.
The match saw the participation of Moroccan duo Youssef Belammari and Achraf Bencharki for Al Ahly, in a highly competitive encounter between the two sides.
The game was officiated by a Moroccan refereeing team led by Jalal Jaid, assisted by Zakaria Brinsi and Mostafa Akarkad, with Mostafa El Kachef serving as the fourth official.
