Esperance Confirms Al Ahly Champions League Quarter-Final Second Leg in Cairo to Be Played Without Fans
Tunisian club Esperance announced on Thursday that the second leg of their CAF Champions League quarter-final match against Egyptian club Al Ahly will be played without spectators, confirming a previous report by "El Botola" days ago.
Esperance's statement read: "Esperance Sportive de Tunis informs its esteemed fans that the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-final, which will see our team face Egyptian club Al Ahly, scheduled for March 21 at Cairo International Stadium, will be held without the presence of spectators."
The statement added: "This decision follows a ruling issued by the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which stipulated that the match be played without fan attendance."
CAF's Disciplinary Committee made the decision to play the match behind closed doors following unfortunate incidents that occurred during a previous encounter between Egyptian club Al Ahly and AS FAR at Cairo International Stadium.
