AS FAR Presents Defense Regarding Cairo Stadium Incidents; Decision Expected Next Week at Latest
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) held a meeting with Morocco's AS FAR and Egypt's Al Ahly this morning via Zoom to discuss the incidents that occurred during their recent match.
"Al Botola" learned from a private source that the committee posed several questions to AS FAR, starting with the reason for their players receiving four yellow cards. The club attributed this to the referee's tension due to the circumstances surrounding the match.
The committee also inquired about the players' delay in entering the pitch between halves. AS FAR explained this was due to a lack of security protection and disturbances from Egyptian fans, who threw projectiles at the players.
A third question from the committee concerned the fans' banner displaying the word "Morocco." AS FAR defended its supporters, stating that the team has fans worldwide and that most supporters carry supportive slogans, provided they do not convey separatist meanings.
Finally, the committee posed a question suggesting that AS FAR fans were the first to instigate the disturbances. The club's management responded by asserting that video footage proved Al Ahly's fans were the initial instigators and fueled the unrest.
The committee's decision is expected to be issued tomorrow at the earliest, or next week at the latest, to close the file before the start of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.
