Sundowns Reach CAF Champions League Final After 1-0 Victory Over Esperance, Await AS FAR vs. RS Berkane Winner
South African club Mamelodi Sundowns secured their place in the CAF Champions League final after defeating Tunisian side Esperance by a solitary goal in their second-leg semi-final match played today, Saturday.
The only goal of the match arrived in the 32nd minute after the referee awarded Sundowns a penalty following a strong challenge by goalkeeper Bashir Ben Said on one of the South African team's players inside the box. Although Brian Leon Moniz's initial penalty kick was unsuccessful, with his shot to the right corner saved by the goalkeeper, the player followed up on the rebound and slotted the ball into the net, giving his team the lead.
The first leg had also ended in a 1-0 victory for Sundowns, confirming their superiority over the two legs and securing their progression to the continental final.
In the CAF Champions League final, Sundowns will face the winner of the match between AS FAR and RS Berkane, scheduled for today, Saturday, at 20:00 GMT+1. This anticipated Moroccan derby will determine the second finalist.
