Mosimane: 'My Return to Sundowns is Possible, Just Like Mike Tyson's Return to Boxing'
South African coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed that the idea of returning to his former club, Mamelodi Sundowns, remains a possibility. He also expressed his ambition to lead his national team, South Africa, in the future, aiming to win the Africa Cup of Nations title.
“Yes, I saw on social media fans demanding my return. Everything is possible in life, never say impossible. I laughed when I saw Mike Tyson return to boxing and I said: ‘This is possible!’” Mosimane told Soccer Laduma newspaper.
He added: “Floyd Mayweather returned, George Foreman returned, so yes, it’s possible. But sometimes you have to remain humble. When you reach four CAF Champions League finals and win three of them, then achieve third place in the Club World Cup twice with Al Ahly and play against big clubs like Bayern Munich, you have to be humble, because this is your home.”
Mosimane continued: “I am personally interested in coaching Bafana Bafana, because it is the medal I want to conclude my career with, the medal I don’t have on the continent. I hope to win the Africa Cup of Nations with the national team, that is my goal.”
He concluded: “I will not campaign, and the federation will choose whoever they deem suitable. But if I were asked today if I would sign the contract? I would agree immediately, because it means a lot to me, and I believe we have the right generation at the right time.”
