Mamelodi Sundowns Defeat Stade Malien (3-0), Close in on CAF Champions League Semifinals
Mamelodi Sundowns secured a convincing 3-0 victory over their visitors Stade Malien in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals. The match took place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.
The South African side ended the first half with a lead, thanks to a goal scored by Khuliso Mudau in the 34th minute. Sundowns could have extended their advantage further, were it not for the excellent performance of the visitors' goalkeeper.
Sundowns sought to consolidate their lead in the second half and successfully did so, scoring their second and third goals through Lucas Ribeiro Costa in the 55th minute and Peter Shalulile in the 74th minute, respectively.
It is worth noting that should Sundowns qualify for the Champions League semi-finals, they will face the winner of the clash between Tunisia's Esperance and Egypt's Al Ahly.
