Officially: June 2 Set as Date to Announce Squads for 48 Teams Participating in 2026 World Cup
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) officially announced on Wednesday the deadline for revealing the squads of the 48 national teams participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to an official statement, FIFA has set Tuesday, June 2, as the date for the announcement of the final squads for the participating teams in the tournament.
The same source clarified that while participating teams can announce their squads at any time, these lists will only become official after FIFA's approval on the specified date.
How many players are allowed?
Preliminary Squad:
Teams must submit a preliminary squad comprising between 35 and 55 players, including at least four goalkeepers. This list remains internal and is not published by FIFA.
Final Squad:
The final squad must include between 23 and 26 players, with a minimum of three goalkeepers.
Exceptions:
A player from the final squad can only be replaced by a player from the preliminary squad in cases of serious injury or illness, up to a maximum of 24 hours before the team's first match in the tournament. Goalkeepers, however, can be replaced at any time during the tournament if they suffer an injury or illness.
