Paris Saint-Germain Wins World Team of the Year Award at Laureus Ceremony
French club Paris Saint-Germain has been awarded the 'World Team of the Year' title at the Laureus World Sports Awards, marking the Parisian club's first-ever appearance on the list of recipients for this global honor. The club's selection comes in recognition of their unprecedented sextuple last season, alongside winning the UEFA Champions League title, which placed them at the forefront of global sports organizations.
Football has maintained a strong presence in this award category for the sixth consecutive year, with the Parisian club receiving its award, which honors teamwork. Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club's president, affirmed, “This dominance once again reflects the strength of our group.” He added that this international recognition underscores the team's upward trajectory in major competitions.
This year's Laureus nominations included Ousmane Dembélé and Désiré Doué in the 'Sportsman of the Year' and 'Breakthrough of the Year' categories, respectively. Although they did not win, they were the only male footballers on the final shortlist. The French club thus joins an elite list that previously featured German club Bayern Munich, Spanish club Real Madrid, as well as the Italian and Argentine national teams, and the Spain women's national team.
