Widespread Solidarity at PSG for Young Player Who Defended Teammate Against Racism
Paris Saint-Germain fans have shown widespread solidarity with young academy player Arman following a violent assault he suffered in Portugal. Supporters' groups displayed a banner of support during the team's Ligue 1 match against Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday, expressing their backing for the player who was injured while defending a teammate facing racist insults.
The incident occurred during the Parisian club's academy participation in the Porto International Cup in Portugal for the U15 category. Arman intervened to protect his teammate from racist harassment, which resulted in him being severely beaten and sustaining a broken nose. He required hospitalization in Porto for treatment. The incident sparked a wave of indignation within French sports circles upon its disclosure.
The Ultras Paris group expressed its support for the player with a banner in the Auteuil stand, which included a message affirming that Arman possesses a "true Parisian mentality" and emphasized, "The Ultras are with you." This stance garnered significant interaction. In the same context, Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi personally contacted Arman, the other player, and their families to convey his full solidarity.
The club president further affirmed his support by extending an official invitation to both players and their families to attend a first-team match at the Parc des Princes. Alongside this official action, Montrouge FC had previously highlighted the seriousness of the incident via a post on its Instagram account, which contributed to shedding light on the event that demonstrated the young player's courage in confronting unsportsmanlike conduct.
