Argentine Player Arrested Over Plane 'Bomb' Threat; Club Mulls Contract Termination
Emiliano Endrizzi, a defender for Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy, a club in the Argentine second division, caused widespread controversy in Argentina last Saturday after bringing air traffic to a standstill at his city's international airport.
The incident occurred when Endrizzi shouted "Bomb! Bomb!" inside a plane just before its scheduled departure for Buenos Aires, prompting the activation of anti-terrorism security protocols.
The aircraft was immediately evacuated and thoroughly searched by a specialized explosives disposal team, but no explosive device was found.
Following the false alarm, the player was arrested, with police handcuffing him and escorting him from the airport tarmac.
In response, Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy's management announced its strong condemnation of Endrizzi's behavior and revealed its intention to terminate the player's contract due to what it deemed a grave error.
The club president explained that this action is being taken to protect the institution's image and honor, even if it impacts the player's professional career, which could now face an unexpected end.
