Enzo Fernandez Apologizes to Chelsea, Agent Confirms Dispute Settled Over Future
Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez and his agent Javier Pastore have apologized to Chelsea Football Club for comments made by the player regarding his future. This apology follows coach Liam Rosenior's decision to exclude Fernandez from two team matches. Pastore confirmed that all parties involved have reached a comprehensive settlement, overcoming recent misunderstandings.
Fernandez's apology was extended to his teammates, the head coach, and the sporting director. The comments in question were made while he was on international duty with the Argentine national team and were interpreted as a willingness to move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. This prompted Rosenior to sanction the player by omitting him from the FA Cup clash against Port Vale and the subsequent match against Manchester City. Javier Pastore clarified the situation, stating, “We explained to the club that Enzo spoke without ill intent and made a mistake. He has apologized to everyone, and we are now in complete agreement after clarifying the misunderstanding.”
While the Argentine's contract with the London club extends until 2032, his agent indicated that the remarks pertained to Madrid as a desirable place to live rather than an immediate desire for a transfer. Pastore emphasized that Fernandez initially did not fully grasp the implications of the situation but respected the technical decision as a professional player committed to management's choices. Chelsea coach Liam Rosenior justified the disciplinary action, saying, “Red lines were crossed regarding our culture, and it was necessary for us to take disciplinary action.” This comes amidst reports linking Real Madrid with a search for a new midfielder, placing Fernandez among their potential future interests.
This resolution marks a significant breakthrough after a period of tension, during which Pastore had previously described the punishment as unfair.
