Reports: Enzo Fernandez's Desire to Join Real Madrid Causes Turmoil at Chelsea
British press reports have revealed a state of unrest within the Chelsea dressing room, attributed to the behavior of Argentine player Enzo Fernandez.
The 25-year-old midfielder sparked widespread controversy after publicly expressing interest in joining Spanish giants Real Madrid. This coincided with reports of strained relationships with his teammates at the London club.
The Telegraph reported that Fernandez had a strong altercation with goalkeeper Jorgensen during the team's Champions League exit against French side Paris Saint-Germain. Fernandez further fueled speculation about his future when he told the media: “I don’t know, there are eight games left and the FA Cup, there’s the World Cup and after that we’ll see.” He also expressed a desire to live in the Spanish capital, stating: “I would like to live in Spain, I like Madrid very much, it reminds me of Buenos Aires, and I will live in Madrid, in football, a player lives where he wants.”
Amid these developments, the Argentine international faced sharp criticism from former club players, most notably John Obi Mikel, who commented: “This is Chelsea, not a stepping stone for another team. If your heart is in Madrid, you shouldn’t wear the blue shirt. At Chelsea, we played for the badge, not for a future transfer deal.”
Fernandez, who joined Chelsea in 2023, has a long-term contract extending until 2032. The club is currently under financial pressure, having recorded the largest debt in Premier League history last season, reaching 300 million euros.
