Chelsea Records Historic Financial Losses Exceeding £260 Million
Chelsea Football Club has announced record financial losses before tax, amounting to £262.4 million (approximately $350 million), as part of its declared results for the 2024-2025 financial year.
This figure represents the largest annual loss ever recorded in the history of the Premier League. The London club attributed these results to a significant increase in operational costs compared to previous years.
The current figures surpass the previous Premier League record, which was held by Manchester City with losses of £197.5 million in the 2010-2011 season. Meanwhile, financial data revealed that Chelsea's revenues for the year ending June 30, 2025, reached £490.9 million.
While these revenues mark the second-highest total in the club's history, the escalating expenditures led to this substantial financial deficit in the final budget.
Despite the scale of the losses, the club affirmed its compliance with the Premier League's financial rules for the three-year assessment period ending in 2024-2025.
Regulations permit clubs a maximum loss of £105 million over three years. However, the rules exclude spending on infrastructure, youth academy development, and women's football when assessing clubs' financial status according to the established guidelines.
