Officially: CAS Announces Receipt of Appeal from Senegalese Federation Against CAF Over AFCON 2025 Final
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has officially announced that it has received an appeal from the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against a decision issued by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) concerning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
This appeal follows CAF's decision, issued on March 17, which declared the Senegalese national team to have forfeited the match, awarding the Moroccan national team a 3-0 victory.
CAS, based in Lausanne, confirmed that the appeal was officially registered on March 25, 2026. Through this appeal, the Senegalese Federation seeks to overturn CAF's decision and be awarded the championship title.
The Senegalese Federation has requested a suspension of the legal deadlines for submitting its appeal brief until it receives the full grounds for CAF's decision. At this stage, it is not yet possible to determine a hearing date or a final timeline for the proceedings.
CAS clarified that the procedures are still in their initial stages. The next step will involve appointing an independent arbitration panel to review the case before a precise timetable for the remaining litigation stages is set.
According to CAS regulations, the appealing party has 20 days to submit its appeal brief, supported by legal arguments, while the respondent party is granted a similar period to respond with a defense brief.
Given the Senegalese side's request for a suspension of deadlines, CAS affirmed that it is currently not possible to set a final hearing date or determine the definitive timeline for the procedures.
