After CAF Decision, Senegal Government Demands International Investigation
The Senegalese government has intervened following the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to strip its national team of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco, demanding an international investigation.
The decision comes approximately two months after the AFCON final, where CAF ruled Senegal to have forfeited the match 3-0 after their withdrawal from the final. The team was accused of violating Article 82 of the tournament regulations following a temporary walk-off during the final match, which they had initially won against Morocco (1-0).
In response to this sanction, the Senegalese government issued a statement on Wednesday, declaring: "Senegal demands the opening of an independent international investigation into suspicions of corruption within the administrative bodies of the Confederation of African Football."
The statement also revealed that "Senegal will resort to all appropriate avenues of appeal, including before the competent international judicial bodies, to ensure justice is served and to restore priority to the sporting result."
The aforementioned body affirmed that "the Confederation of African Football has damaged its credibility and the trust that African peoples place in continental sporting institutions."
The Senegalese government further clarified in the same statement that it will utilize "all available legal avenues, including before the competent international judicial bodies, to ensure justice is achieved and to restore the integrity of sporting results."
