El Zabiri on Morocco National Team Call-Up: "I hope I don't let down Wahbi, who placed his trust in me"
Yasser El Zabiri, a Moroccan national team player, hopes to live up to the expectations of coach Mohamed Wahbi, following his first call-up to the national squad's preparatory camp for friendly matches against Ecuador and Paraguay.
In a statement to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation's official website, El Zabiri described how he learned about his first national team call-up: "I was training with my team alongside Ait Boudlal, and it was 12 PM Moroccan time."
He continued: "Immediately after the training session, we rushed to the changing room to watch the coach's live press conference. Then I heard my name, and I felt an indescribable emotion, because this had been a dream since I was a child."
He added: "Since I was in the academy, I dreamed of wearing the national team jersey. This is a great honor for me and my family. I thank national coach Wahbi for this call-up and for the trust he has placed in me, and God willing, I won't let him down, nor the entire staff, nor the people who expect us to do something good in the World Cup."
Regarding the atmosphere within the camp, he concluded: "The group is good, and no one feels superior. We have great players whom we used to watch on TV, and now we play with them, and they all welcomed me well. What motivates me is that I know a number of players here."
