CAF to Decide on Women's Africa Cup of Nations Future Amid Controversy
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to announce the host nation for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations finals in the coming days. The tournament is currently scheduled to take place between March 17 and April 3, 2026.
This decision comes after recent concerns were raised regarding Morocco's readiness to host the competition. Concurrently, South Africa has expressed its interest in stepping in to organize the tournament should the need arise.
These developments follow widespread speculation that Morocco might withdraw from hosting or request a postponement of the event. This prompted the South African Football Association (SAFA) to take action, anticipating potential changes to the tournament schedule and aiming to prevent any organizational disruption.
CAF is expected to issue its official and final decision soon. This decision will either confirm Morocco as the host, as initially planned, postpone the tournament at the organizing body's request, or assign hosting duties to South Africa if Morocco is unable to stage the event.
