Hakimi: "We know the fans are unhappy... I experienced a similar situation with Paris Saint-Germain, but in the end, we won the Champions League"
Achraf Hakimi, a player for the national team, addressed the Moroccan fans' anger following the draw against Mali, emphasizing the need for unity to win the Africa Cup of Nations title.
Speaking at the press conference ahead of the match against Zambia, Hakimi stated: "We have the best coach to win this 'AFCON' with his staff. My goal and the team's goal is to remain united and win the title. The coach has created a team mentality that we didn't have before."
He continued: "I am among the players who have played alongside different generations in the national team, and I have never seen such a spirit before. The team today is very united, even though the fans are dissatisfied and critical. We will do our job and we are on the right track, and I hope we achieve great things together."
Hakimi added: "We know the fans are unhappy, and we will work to make them happy, as we, in turn, need their support. It's not good to sometimes whistle and boo, because we want them by our side; they are the 12th player."
He concluded: "I experienced a similar situation with my team, Paris Saint-Germain, where in the Champions League last season, we weren't winning at the start of the season and were suffering defeats. They said we weren't a good team and didn't have a good coach, but in the end, we became champions of Europe. The fans must stay behind us so that we can become champions of Africa together."
