Kompany, Bayern Munich Coach: "Africa Cup of Nations Should Not Be Underestimated; I Hope DR Congo Wins"
Vincent Kompany has called for the Africa Cup of Nations not to be underestimated, emphasizing its significance for African players and the need for it to be respected.
The Bayern Munich coach made these remarks in media statements, coinciding with his player Nicolas Jackson's participation with the Senegal national team. He stated, "We hope he goes as far as possible [in AFCON]. The importance of this tournament for African players should not be underestimated."
When asked about which team he tips to win the title, the Belgian coach said, "I hope the Democratic Republic of Congo national team wins the title," noting that Kompany's father is Congolese.
It should be noted that the Africa Cup of Nations is set to kick off this Sunday with a match between the Moroccan national team and Comoros at 20:00 GMT+1. The tournament will continue until January 18, 2026.
