The Moroccan team had a strong run in the group stage, winning their first match against Comoros 3-1, then drawing 0-0 with Oman, before securing a 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the final round. They topped their group with 7 points, qualifying deservedly for the quarter-finals.
The Syrian team reached this stage after winning their first match against Tunisia 1-0, drawing 1-1 with Qatar in the second round, and then drawing 0-0 with Palestine in the third round. They accumulated 5 points, securing qualification for the quarter-finals as runners-up in Group A.
This decisive match will be officiated by a South American refereeing team, led by Chilean referee Cristian Garay, assisted by his compatriots Claudio Urrutia and José Retamal.
