The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has sent an official letter to FIFA, the international governing body of football, unequivocally rejecting any activities related to LGBTQ+ support during the Egyptian national team's match against Iran. The game is scheduled for June 26 in Seattle, USA, as part of the third matchday of the group stage for the 2026 World Cup.

In the letter addressed to FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström, the EFA stated that information had circulated suggesting the local organizing committee planned to host events linked to LGBTQ+ support during the match. The EFA emphasized its categorical rejection of these activities, which it believes contradict the cultural, religious, and social values of the region, particularly in Arab and Islamic societies.

The EFA further clarified in an official statement that adhering to FIFA's principles of ensuring a respectful and welcoming environment for fans necessitates avoiding the inclusion of any activities that might provoke cultural and religious sensitivities among Egyptian and Iranian supporters. It noted that such events could be controversial and conflict with the identities of both nations.

The federation's letter cited FIFA's principles and regulations, including Article 4 of its Statutes, which emphasizes neutrality in political and social matters and the importance of keeping football competitions free from any displays that could incite conflict or misunderstanding among fans from diverse backgrounds. The EFA also referred to FIFA's Disciplinary Code and Event Regulations, which underscore the need to organize events in a manner that respects the cultures and identities of participants.

The Egyptian FA concluded its letter by affirming that its objective is to ensure the match takes place in a respectful sporting atmosphere, free from any potentially controversial activities. It urged FIFA not to permit any events related to LGBTQ+ support inside the stadium on the day of the match.
