Morocco Stands Out: Only African Team to Win and Lead a Group After Arab Cup Opening Round
As the curtain fell on the first round of the group stage in the 2025 Arab Cup in Qatar, and following the goalless draw between Algeria and Sudan, the Moroccan national team distinguished itself among the six participating African teams.
The "Atlas Lions" became the only African team, and indeed the only North African team, to secure a victory in their opening match, defeating Comoros three goals to one.
In contrast, the Tunisian national team suffered the sole African defeat of the round, losing to Syria by a single goal. The remaining matches involving African teams ended in draws, specifically Sudan's clash with Algeria and Egypt's game against Kuwait.
Furthermore, Morocco is the only African team among the four group leaders, alongside Syria, Jordan, and Iraq.
The Moroccan national team will continue its campaign when they face Oman this Friday, in the second round of the group stage, with kick-off scheduled for 3:30 PM (GMT+1).
