The technical staff of the Egyptian national football team, led by Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan, has announced the preliminary squad that the "Pharaohs" will take into their December training camp. This camp serves as preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations finals, which Morocco will host between December 21 and January 18.

The squad comprises 28 players, most of whom have maintained their presence from previous camps. Notably, Al Ahly star Emam Ashour returns after recovering from injury. The Egyptian team continues its quest for an eighth continental title, having last won the trophy in 2010 in Angola.

However, the list also saw the absence of several prominent names who were part of the coaching staff's selections in the recent past. These include Mohamed Abdelmonem (Nice, France), Nabil Emad Dunga (Zamalek), Ahmed Nabil Koka and Taher Mohamed Taher (Al Ahly), Mahmoud Zalaka and Ahmed Atef "Qata" (Pyramids), Amr El Gazzar (National Bank of Egypt), Mohamed Rabia (ZED FC), and Marwan Othman (Ceramica Cleopatra).

The 28-player preliminary squad for the Egyptian national team includes: Mohamed El Shenawy, Mohamed Abou Gabal, Mohamed Sobhi, Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed, Omar Kamal, Mahmoud Alaa, Ahmed Fattouh, Ali Gabr, Ahmed Hegazi, Mohamed Hany, Akram Tawfik, Mohanad Lasheen, Emam Ashour, Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, Ahmed Sayed "Zizo", Hamdy Fathy, Mostafa Fathy, Mostafa Mohamed, Mohamed Sherif, Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet", Mohamed Magdy "Afsha", Karim Fouad, Marwan Attia, Hamdy El Naggaz, Ahmed El Sheikh, Hussein El Shahat, and Abd El Rahman Magdy. This list is expected to be trimmed before the final squad for AFCON 2025 is announced.

The Egyptian national team will commence an open training camp on December 3, before entering a closed camp on December 7. This preparation includes a friendly match against Nigeria scheduled for December 14 in Cairo. The team will then travel to Morocco on December 17 to participate in the tournament, where they will kick off their campaign against Zimbabwe on December 22 in Agadir.
