Ivorian national team player Nicolas Pépé mocked Morocco's single Africa Cup of Nations title, less than a month before the start of AFCON 2025.

A video of the Ivorian player circulated on social media, in which he sarcastically stated: "We must be careful of the Moroccan national team. How many stars do they have? They don't have any stars, maybe they have one they won in 1818. My father wasn't even born yet."

Nicolas Pépé's statement sparked widespread controversy in recent hours after its extensive circulation, as he appeared in the clip ridiculing Morocco's history in continental tournaments.

This statement comes less than a month before Morocco hosts the Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
