Laporta: "We Can Sign a Star Player, But Too Many Roosters in One Coop Is Not Effective"
Joan Laporta, President of Barcelona, analyzed the club's current situation and its ability to operate in upcoming transfer windows during an event organized by 'La Vanguardia' newspaper, discussing the future of Polish star Robert Lewandowski with the team.
Laporta stated: "You should discuss this matter with Deco. We will have to evaluate Lewandowski's performance this season; he is very much loved within the team and has a good relationship with the young players. Perhaps we need an alternative for these positions, and Deco is currently working on plans for June and others for January. We will be able to make major signings in the summer, but we will not lose our heads over any player."
Laporta defended the work of his sporting director, Deco, explaining that signing prominent players is not always easy and does not guarantee absolute success. He sent an indirect message to its traditional rival, saying: "If someone believes that signing a top-tier player will guarantee us victory in all matches, we might be able to complete such a deal, but I don't see it as that necessary. Too many roosters in one coop are often not effective, and there are examples everyone is thinking of."
Barcelona is striving to return to the 1/1 financial rule, which allows the club complete freedom in the transfer market. Laporta noted that the club was in a normal situation last January, with contract renewals for young players like Yamal, Cubarsí, Fermín, and Gavi, and the club also signed Juan García and Bardghji.
He explained: "We will soon be able to return to the 1/1 rule. We want to return to this situation to restore normalcy, and this does not concern us much. We have a competitive team, and I believe we will be able to manage well, if it's necessary to have an even more competitive team. Furthermore, we have La Masia, and if we need an additional piece, I believe we will be able to acquire it."
