Al Ahly Reaches Preliminary Agreement with Ammouta to Succeed Thorup
Egyptian media reports have revealed that Al Ahly club officials have reached a preliminary agreement with Moroccan coach Hussein Ammouta to take over the technical leadership of the team in the upcoming period, succeeding Denmark's Jess Thorup. Negotiations are ongoing regarding some final details and clauses before the official contract is finalized.
According to the Egyptian website "Btolat", Al Ahly's management considers Ammouta among the most prominent options to succeed the current technical staff. He ranks second on the list of candidates, behind Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz.
The source added that the Egyptian club is prioritizing finalizing Queiroz's file. Should negotiations falter and no final agreement be reached with him, Al Ahly will directly proceed to finalize a contract with Hussein Ammouta, who enjoys significant trust within the club due to his successful experience and distinguished coaching record.
Hussein Ammouta boasts a distinguished coaching career with both clubs and national teams. He has achieved notable successes with Qatar's Al Sadd, Morocco's Wydad AC, AS FAR, and Fath Union Sport. Additionally, his stints with the Moroccan national team (local players) and the Jordanian national team saw him lead Jordan to the AFC Asian Cup final, confirming his status as one of the most prominent coaches in the Arab world. He also won the CAF Champions League title with Wydad AC in 2017.
