Manchester United CEO Berrada Pledges Support for Morocco at 2026 World Cup
Moroccan Omar Berrada, the Chief Executive Officer of English club Manchester United, affirmed his strong connection to the Moroccan national team, indicating that he will continue to support the Atlas Lions during the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals.
Speaking on the "Inside Carrington" podcast, Berrada stated: "I will support the Moroccan national team in the 2026 World Cup. My first football memory dates back to Morocco's participation in the 1986 World Cup."
He added, recalling a historic achievement: "Morocco was the first African team to successfully advance beyond the group stage in the World Cup finals, before being eliminated by West Germany, and that achievement has remained etched in my memory."
Berrada also spoke about his Moroccan roots, explaining: "My parents are of Moroccan origin and were studying in Paris. I have lived in several countries, including Morocco, and I was fortunate enough to reside in six different countries."
He continued: "I have always cheered for Morocco, and since childhood, I have followed the national team. The first World Cup I remember is the 1986 edition, and I recall the match between Morocco and England in the group stage."
The Moroccan executive also recounted the beginnings of his passion for football, clarifying: "I have loved football since my childhood, almost since I started walking, and although I didn't have enough talent to become a professional player, I have always been a keen follower of this sport."
He concluded his remarks by stating: "During the eighties and nineties, I was an admirer of Johan Cruyff's Barcelona, Arrigo Sacchi's Milan, and Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United."
