Robertson: World Cup Qualification 'Not Easy,' Representing Scotland a 'Great Source of Pride'
Andrew Robertson, captain of the Scottish national team, has affirmed that participating in the World Cup is a moment of immense pride. He noted that most members of the squad have navigated similar challenging paths to reach the highest levels of the sport.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Robertson stated that all Scotland players "had to fight for everything they achieved." He added that "the path to professionalism is never easy, regardless of the different experiences and routes players take to reach the top."
The Scottish captain explained that a distinguishing feature of the current squad is the similarity in their individual stories. He affirmed: "All Scotland players have similar journeys, and I think that's what makes us very close to each other and makes us a great group."
Robertson also underscored the significance of representing his country on the world's biggest football stage. He said: "For us, going to represent our country at the World Cup is something that should make all players extremely proud."
The Liverpool player revealed a message he sent to a group of his friends within the national team after the final squad announcement. He recalled telling them: "Who would have imagined that we would all go to the World Cup when we were 11 and 12-year-old kids playing together and chasing the ball?"
He concluded by emphasizing the profound value of this achievement, adding: "Qualifying for the World Cup is not easy, but to be one of 26 players representing your country on the biggest football stage in the world, that is a moment of great pride."
