Scotland manager Steve Clarke affirmed that participating in the World Cup has taken on greater significance for him as the tournament approaches. He noted that the atmosphere surrounding the Scottish national team reflects the magnitude of the eagerly anticipated event, marking the team's return to the World Cup after a 28-year absence.
Speaking at the press conference following the squad announcement, Clarke stated: "Since November, I've started to grasp the true scale of this event, whether during my travels in America or whenever I return to Scotland. Everyone is incredibly excited for the World Cup."
The Scotland coach added: "I fully understand the importance of the tournament and the responsibility placed upon us to go there and give our best, and that is what we will strive to achieve."
Clarke also lauded the standard of the Scottish League this season, asserting that Scottish football is experiencing a special period. He remarked: "It has been a fantastic year for Scottish football, and the Premiership is one of the most competitive it has been in many years."
He continued: "The national team's qualification for the World Cup after 28 years has created a hugely positive atmosphere, and we must continue to build on that feeling."
Steve Clarke expressed great confidence in his players, emphasizing his desire to achieve a historic feat with the Scottish national team. He stated: "I have great faith in the players, and I hope we can achieve something no Scotland team has ever achieved before."
He concluded his remarks by saying: "I have always held this belief; I've been in football for many years, and I know that if you work well and believe in what you are doing, with a little bit of luck that you sometimes need in football, you can achieve great things."
