Ancelotti Confirms No Rush for Injured Neymar Ahead of 2026 World Cup
Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed he will not rush star forward Neymar back into action for the 2026 World Cup finals, as the player continues to recover from a calf injury.
These remarks came immediately after the team's delegation arrived at their main training camp in Newark, New Jersey, despite earlier indications from the technical staff that Neymar might be able to participate in the initial group stage matches.
The Italian coach has adjusted expectations regarding the readiness of the team's historic top scorer, preferring a cautious approach before deploying him in the competitions, which officially kick off on June 11.
In this context, Ancelotti stated: "He is improving well, he is fine, but we are not in a hurry." This marks a shift from his previous assessments, which had suggested Neymar's potential availability for his country's first or second match in the global tournament.
Rodrigo Lasmar, the Brazilian national team doctor, reported that the 34-year-old Neymar requires a recovery period of two to three weeks before returning to the pitch. Based on this medical timeline, the player's participation in Brazil's opening match against Morocco on June 13, and the subsequent encounters against Haiti on June 19 and Scotland on June 24, remains doubtful.
Neymar, who holds the national team's scoring record with 79 goals, is set to compete in his fourth World Cup, following an absence of more than two years from the Brazilian squad.
