Ronaldo Refuses Silver Medal After AFC Champions League 2 Final Loss; Coach Jesus: "Crying Is Useless Now, League Decider Awaits"
Saudi club Al-Nassr lost the AFC Champions League 2 title after falling 0-1 to Gamba Osaka in Saturday's final. Following the defeat, coach Jorge Jesus affirmed that his team must now shift its focus to securing the Saudi League title.
The end of the match witnessed an unusual incident when Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo refused to join his teammates in collecting their silver medals, a clear expression of his dissatisfaction with losing the title.
In the post-match press conference, Al-Nassr coach Jesus stated: "Next Thursday marks the final round of the Roshn Saudi League, and this is the most important date for us. Since the beginning of the season, the competition we have been preparing for is the league title."
The Portuguese coach added: "The fans do not know the reality of the team. We have played 50 matches this season, and we have one match left to achieve the title. Champion teams are those that reach finals and compete until the very end. Now we are preparing ourselves for the most important match of the season."
The 71-year-old coach concluded: "Now we have one match left, and the most important coronation for us is the league. As a coach, I have won and lost many matches; this is a natural part of my job. But now there is no point in crying or regretting. All I am thinking about now is the medical clinic. There are five days left until a match that represents an important title for us, and the players are excited for it."
Al-Nassr will host Damac next Thursday (19:00 GMT+1) in the final round of the Saudi League. They need to secure a victory to officially guarantee the title, without having to wait for the result of their rivals Al-Hilal, who will visit Al-Fayha.
