Paris Deputy Mayor Confirms No Fan Zones for Champions League Final
Emmanuel Grégoire, Deputy Mayor of Paris, confirmed on Monday that no fan zones will be set up in the French capital for the upcoming Champions League final on May 30. This official decision aims to resolve the debate surrounding security arrangements in the city, coinciding with the highly anticipated match between Paris Saint-Germain and England's Arsenal, which will take place in Budapest, the Hungarian capital.
Grégoire explained that difficulties related to securing residents and visitors are the main driver behind this decision, especially given the scheduling conflicts with numerous private events set for the same date. In this context, Emmanuel Grégoire stated, "For me, what matters most is the security of Parisians and spectators, and I must admit that the concentration of events makes it difficult to mobilize for these events at the same time." This explains the inability to allocate additional security resources to serve fans in public squares.
The Hungarian capital, Budapest, is preparing to host the final showdown of the continent's most prestigious club competition. French club Paris Saint-Germain aims to secure its second title in the tournament during its anticipated clash against Arsenal. However, fans in France will have to follow the match away from the public squares and official celebrations that Paris typically organizes for major sporting events.
