French Channel Opts Against Broadcasting Argentina-Algeria 2026 World Cup Match
French channel M6 has officially announced its decision not to broadcast the anticipated match between Argentina and Algeria in the 2026 World Cup finals, scheduled to take place on the night of June 16-17.
This decision comes after the match was scheduled for 3:00 AM French time, leading to its exclusion from the list of games broadcast on free-to-air television. The channel aims to reach audiences at more convenient times and ensure high viewership ratings.
Guillaume Charles, Head of Programs at the French network, explained that the primary criterion for selection was the match's ability to attract a wide audience during typical viewing hours.
In this context, Guillaume Charles stated that 3:00 AM would not draw record viewership. He said, "Unfortunately, at 3:00 AM, there won't be as many viewers as for the other matches we have chosen," emphasizing that the channel aims to achieve the highest levels of engagement with its carefully selected sports programs.
The channel had previously outlined its strategy to broadcast 47 matches kicking off between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM, including securing coverage of the French national team's first-round games.
