Real Madrid Sues La Liga to Annul Anti-Discrimination and Violence Protocol
Real Madrid has filed a lawsuit against La Liga, seeking to annul the protocol designed to combat discrimination, violence, and harassment in professional football.
This legal action stems from the club's desire to invalidate the protocol, which was adopted by La Liga's delegated commission on February 20, 2026. The club demands that its mandatory nature be revoked, making it an optional framework.
The Royal club argues that this protocol should be available for voluntary adherence by clubs, rather than being a coercive system imposed by the league.
Real Madrid's lawsuit states that this measure "should be made available to clubs for voluntary adherence, but La Liga has turned it into a coercive system that clubs are forced to implement." The club further asserts in its legal arguments that it possesses its own independent and continuous protocol for addressing these issues.
In related judicial developments, the judge rejected Real Madrid's request for immediate precautionary measures, preferring to hear La Liga's perspective on the facts before making any decision.
It is worth noting that La Liga had presented the first version of this protocol on March 26, 2026, as part of a broader strategy to combat hostile behavior within sports stadiums.
The aforementioned protocol enjoys explicit support from Spanish authorities, including the Minister of Interior and the General Directorate of the Spanish Police, as it comes in response to an explicit mandate from the amended Spanish Sports Law.
Despite this widespread official and institutional backing, the club insists on its legal stance regarding the necessity of preserving clubs' autonomy in adopting their own policies to combat violence and discrimination.
