Brazil's Woes Deepen Ahead of Morocco Encounter: Militao Injury Requires Surgery, World Cup Absence Possible
Spanish media outlets have revealed that the injury sustained by Brazilian international Éder Militão, a Real Madrid player, is more serious than initially anticipated, potentially ending his season prematurely and ruling him out of the World Cup.
According to Spanish radio station Cope, recent medical examinations have shown that the wound from a previous injury the player suffered in December has reopened in the same location, necessitating surgical intervention.
The Real Madrid defender had sustained a new injury during his team's match against Alavés last Tuesday. It was initially diagnosed as a muscle tear in his left hamstring, with early predictions suggesting he would be sidelined until the end of the season but with a possibility of recovering in time for the World Cup.
However, recent medical developments have changed the outlook. The same source confirmed that the previous injury had not fully healed, leading to its reopening, which makes surgical intervention essential to ensure proper muscle recovery.
Should Militão undergo surgery, he could face a lengthy absence, potentially extending until the start of the 2026/2027 season. This would rule him out of the World Cup, representing a significant blow to the Brazilian national team ahead of the global tournament. Brazil, known as 'A Seleção,' is in Group C alongside Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti.
