16 Senegalese Federation Members Accuse President Abdoulaye Fall of Financial Corruption Over AFCON 2025 Bonuses
A new crisis has erupted within the Senegalese Football Federation, coinciding with its ongoing legal battle against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) concerning the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
Sport News Africa reported that severe disagreements have emerged between Senegalese Federation President Abdoulaye Fall and 16 members of the executive committee. These members have declared their rebellion, accusing Fall of adopting an opaque and selective management style.
The executive committee members, known as the "Bloc of 16," revealed that Abdoulaye Fall disbursed performance bonuses for the Africa Cup of Nations without their approval. An amount of 13 million CFA francs was reportedly paid to certain officials with the president's endorsement. This figure has raised several questions, especially since some beneficiaries were not part of the official delegation during the tournament held in Morocco.
The crisis stems from the "Bloc of 16" members' attempt to obtain a grant of 50 million CFA francs, despite not being included in the official list. This bonus was awarded by Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, in addition to the official delegation's bonuses.
After the Federation president rejected their request and referred them to Secretary-General Abdoulaye Seydou Sow, the dissenting members chose to escalate the matter by exposing the issue to the public. What began as an administrative dispute has now become a public scandal, revealing Abdoulaye Fall's alleged corruption and deception.
Consequently, the Senegalese Federation president finds himself facing new accusations of financial corruption, which puts his credibility and future at stake. This comes at a time when another case against him is still pending before CAS, alleging bribery to secure his current position.
