El Salvador Replaces Morocco Friendly with Qatar Match in Los Angeles
Yamil Bukele, President of the Salvadoran Football Federation, announced a friendly match for his national team against Qatar, replacing a previously scheduled fixture against Morocco.
Bukele stated in a post on his official X account that El Salvador will face “Al-Annabi” (Qatar's nickname) on June 6, 2026, in Los Angeles, USA, during the international break.
The Salvadoran FA President added that the match would not be televised, a decision made by the authorities overseeing the Qatari national team.
Bukele concluded by saying: “We can confirm that one of the national team's matches during this window will be against Qatar on June 6 in Los Angeles, and we will soon announce the second friendly match during this period.”
The Royal Moroccan Football Federation had proposed moving El Salvador's friendly match to Morocco, specifically to the city of Rabat, on June 2, instead of playing it in Washington D.C. This was an attempt to reschedule it under better organizational conditions.
This proposal came as a result of several developments, most notably the overlap of European and and Asian club continental competition finals with the international break. Additionally, there were changes to the scheduling of national leagues in both Morocco and Saudi Arabia, as well as injuries to several key players, which impacted the overall readiness of the national teams.
