Tottenham Condemns Racist Abuse Against Danso, Pursues Legal Action
English club Tottenham Hotspur has condemned the abhorrent racist abuse directed at its player, Kevin Danso, across social media platforms following Saturday's match against Brighton. The London club announced immediate steps to pursue the perpetrators and ensure accountability for these actions, which it described as inhumane.
In an official statement, the club clarified that the player was subjected to continuous attacks after a technical error led to a late equalizing goal in the 95th minute by Giorginho Rutter, resulting in a 2-2 draw. Tottenham emphasized in its statement that such behavior constitutes a criminal offense and will not be tolerated, stating: “We have witnessed abhorrent and dehumanizing racism, and this behavior undoubtedly constitutes a crime and will not be overlooked.”
As part of its official response, the club initiated legal proceedings by informing the Metropolitan Police and relevant authorities in the countries where the abusive account holders reside, in addition to coordinating with social media platforms to impose the maximum possible penalties. The club also affirmed its full support for the player in an official statement: “Kevin has our full and unconditional support as a player and as a human being. No one at this club will stand alone against such actions, as there is no place for racism at Tottenham Hotspur or in football in general.”
In this regard, the club is currently collaborating with specialized third parties in digital investigation monitoring to track down the abusers, who may face penalties including imprisonment, stadium bans, financial fines, criminal records, or educational programs imposed by the police. This crisis comes amidst a difficult period for the team in the Premier League, where they are currently in the relegation zone.
