450-Strong Security Plan Activated for Atlético Madrid vs. Tottenham Champions League Tie
The Government Delegation in Madrid has initiated a comprehensive security operation involving approximately 450 personnel to secure the Atlético Madrid vs. Tottenham Hotspur match scheduled for March 9, 2026. This extensive operation, which includes various security agencies and emergency services, aims to monitor the areas surrounding the Cívitas Metropolitano stadium and ensure the smooth running of the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 tie without significant incidents.
The security plan involves personnel from the Spanish National Police, the Civil Guard (for traffic management), and local police, in addition to SAMUR Civil Protection teams, to cover all aspects of security both inside and outside the sports facility. These forces will coordinate their efforts amid expectations of a massive crowd, with the stadium anticipated to be at full capacity when the match kicks off at 9:00 PM.
In terms of logistical preparations, approximately 3,000 ticket-holding supporters of the English club are expected to arrive. This has prompted Spanish authorities to enhance metro services by increasing the number of security guards at stations leading to the stadium.
