De Zerbi Nears Tottenham Hotspur Coaching Role Amid Relegation Fears
Media reports have revealed that English club Tottenham Hotspur is close to signing Italian Roberto De Zerbi as their new coach, with negotiations between the two parties continuing throughout the night to finalize the agreement.
The Italian coach will take over the team, succeeding Croatian Igor Tudor, who departed after just 44 days, during which he failed to secure any wins in the Premier League. Currently, Tottenham is struggling in 17th place in the standings, just one point above the relegation zone, and has not tasted victory in the domestic competition since the start of 2026.
De Zerbi faces a tough test with seven remaining matches to preserve the club's top-flight status. He is expected to begin his tenure with a match against Sunderland on April 12.
De Zerbi's coaching record includes leading English club Brighton to European qualification and guiding Olympique Marseille to a second-place finish in the French league before his departure last February.
Despite his initial hesitation to accept the role, Tottenham's management's insistence on signing him as the team's third coach this season reflects their desire to leverage his experience to ensure their Premier League survival.
