Szoboszlai Highlights PSG's Rest Advantage Ahead of Liverpool Clash
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has stated that Paris Saint-Germain holds a significant advantage ahead of their Champions League return leg tomorrow, Tuesday (20:00 GMT+1), due to the French side having more days of rest.
The Hungarian international explained that the postponement of the Parisian club's Ligue 1 match against Lens granted their opponents additional time for recovery, analysis, and thorough preparation, while Liverpool had to play their scheduled Premier League fixture against Fulham.
The Liverpool midfielder emphasized the difference this scheduling disparity makes, stating: "Of course, it's different when they can rest between games; they have more time to recover, analyze the match, and prepare." Szoboszlai also noted that some of his teammates playing two consecutive matches in a short period represents a significant difference in physical readiness. He stressed, however, that Liverpool must handle this situation with complete professionalism as the team aims to overturn their 2-0 first-leg deficit.
Conversely, Paris Saint-Germain's sporting advisor, Luis Campos, justified the decision to postpone the domestic match as a step aimed at supporting the team in its continental mission. He said: "It's about putting the team in the best conditions to represent France well in Europe, which is what the country needs." This move is a repeat of a policy previously adopted in France, where similar situations saw Parisian club matches postponed before Champions League encounters, as was the case before a match against English side Chelsea.
Despite the pressures imposed by Liverpool's congested fixture list, the English club aims to turn the tables on Paris Saint-Germain and overcome the two-goal deficit. Meanwhile, Lens continues its pursuit of the Ligue 1 leaders, trailing by four points having played an additional match, which adds further significance to the postponed fixtures in the domestic competition.
