Liverpool Announces Robertson's Departure at Season's End After Trophy-Laden Career
Liverpool Football Club has officially announced the departure of its defender and Scotland national team captain, Andy Robertson, at the end of the current season, coinciding with the expiration of his contract. This announcement concludes the 32-year-old player's nine-season tenure at Anfield, where he has been a key figure since joining from Hull City in 2017.
Robertson played a significant role in Liverpool's notable achievements, featuring in 373 official matches, scoring 13 goals, and providing 69 assists. His impressive trophy haul with the team includes two Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League title, an FA Cup, and two League Cups.
The Scottish defender addressed his decision's motivations via the club's media channel. Andy Robertson stated, "I understand that football and teams move on, and I believe the time has come for me to leave and seek a new experience wherever my next destination may be." He added that leaving the team is not easy for him or his family, emphasizing that the club has been a fundamental part of their lives throughout the past years, which he will always remember with a big smile.
This decision follows an announcement by his teammate Mohamed Salah several weeks ago regarding his desire to leave the club. This season has seen a reduction in Robertson's starting appearances, limited to just 15 matches after the arrival of Milos Kerkez. The Scottish captain's name had also been linked with a potential move to Tottenham Hotspur during the last winter transfer window.
