Spanish Referee José María Sánchez Appointed for Paris Saint-Germain vs. Liverpool Champions League Quarter-Final
The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has announced the appointment of Spanish referee José María Sánchez to officiate the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool. The match is scheduled to take place this Wednesday at 20:00 GMT+1 at the Parc des Princes stadium.
This will mark the second time Sánchez has overseen a Paris Saint-Germain match, while it will be his third encounter with Liverpool in European competitions.
Records indicate that the English side achieved a perfect record, winning both of their previous matches under the Spanish referee's whistle. In contrast, the Parisian team stumbled in their sole prior experience with him, losing to Aston Villa in April 2025, despite still managing to qualify for the semi-finals in that particular edition.
The 42-year-old Spanish official boasts an extensive career in La Liga, having officiated over 200 domestic matches. His total number of Champions League appearances stands at 19, with five of those fixtures taking place during the current season.
