Paris Mayor to Honour PSG Players, Reopens Parc des Princes Stadium Talks
Newly elected Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire has announced his intention to honour Paris Saint-Germain players following their UEFA Champions League triumph, while also reopening discussions regarding the future of the Parc des Princes stadium.
This move signals a new phase of cooperation between the French capital's municipality and the club, with an extraordinary meeting of the Paris Council scheduled for mid-April to discuss the stadium's status and development.
In press statements, Grégoire explained his desire to extend a formal invitation to the Parisian team before summer. "I would like to propose presenting medals and honours to the entire team, in recognition of winning the Champions League title, and invite them before summer," the Paris Mayor stated. He noted that communication resumed following a phone call he received from Nasser Al-Khelaifi, President of Paris Saint-Germain, expressing his satisfaction with this initiative which ends the previous stalemate.
For his part, the Mayor emphasized the importance of joint work to determine the fate of the team's historic home. He affirmed: "I hope that together we can build the future of the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris, and this will be on the agenda for the extraordinary Paris Council meeting in mid-April." This shift comes after discussions between the two parties had completely stalled at the end of former Mayor Anne Hidalgo's tenure, making the current efforts a step towards resolving outstanding disagreements.
