Rio Ngomoha Becomes Liverpool's Youngest Anfield Goalscorer at 17
Rio Ngomoha has become the youngest player in Liverpool's history to score at Anfield, achieving this feat during his team's 2-0 victory over Fulham in the Premier League. Ngomoha set this new record at 17 years and 225 days old, adding to his impressive goal-scoring record which previously saw him net against Newcastle, making him the fifth-youngest goalscorer in Premier League history at 16 years and 361 days.
This impressive form has prompted several former club legends, including Danny Murphy, Steve Nicol, Jamie Redknapp, and Jamie Carragher, to call for the immediate integration of the young player into the starting lineup. Suggestions have even emerged for him to start in the upcoming match against Paris Saint-Germain.
Regarding this, Steve Nicol stated, “There’s no reason why he shouldn’t be in the starting XI.” Meanwhile, the player himself expressed pride in representing the club, affirming that Liverpool is the biggest club in the world. Rio Ngomoha said, “It’s a very special goal. Liverpool is the biggest club in the world, and to start at such an early age with the coach’s trust in me is fantastic.”
These developments come as coach Arne Slot has acknowledged Ngomoha's unique quality and physical development, especially with the official confirmations of Mohamed Salah's departure from the team at the end of the current season.
Arne Slot commented, “He represents not only the long-term future but also the near future. I said a month or two ago that his playing time would increase because he is getting stronger and more powerful,” paving the way for expanded involvement for the young player, who was born in Newham on August 29, 2008.
