Deco Calls Messi's Barcelona Return 'Unrealistic,' Denies Contact
Anderson Luís de Souza, known as Deco, the sporting director of Spanish club Barcelona, has described reports circulating about the return of Argentine star Lionel Messi to the Catalan team as 'unrealistic.' He stated that the club has not received any official indications regarding this matter from the player or his representatives recently.
In media statements, Deco clarified that Messi, who currently plays for American club Inter Miami, has not contacted the Spanish club's management, nor have any of his close associates, to express a desire to return. He affirmed that this topic has not been discussed within the club since he took on his administrative role.
Deco stated, "The return scenario has never been on the table since I started my duties. Messi or anyone from his entourage has not contacted us to say he wants to come back. All that is being circulated are just many rumors and unrealistic matters."
The Spanish club's sporting director emphasized that "discussing these matters with a great player like Leo is futile if there is nothing real or tangible." In this context, the former Catalan club midfielder noted that Messi remains the best player in the history of football or one of the greatest to have ever played the game.
This clarification comes at a time when Messi had previously expressed on his personal accounts his aspiration to return to Barcelona in the future, without specifying a date. However, the statements from the Spanish sporting management confirm the absence of any official moves or real contacts at present.
