White House Pressures FIFA to Bar Transgender Women from Women's Football
The White House is reportedly seeking to prevent transgender athletes from competing professionally in women's football. This comes as President Donald Trump has not yet signed the necessary government guarantees for a U.S.-led bid to host the 2031 FIFA Women's World Cup.
According to the English newspaper "The Athletic," Donald Trump has been pushing for stricter restrictions on the participation of transgender athletes in women's sports since returning to office for a second term.
In February 2025, Trump signed an executive order titled "Keeping Men Out of Women's Sports," aimed at preventing athletes from competing in women's sports unless they were classified as female at birth.
The same source added that the White House has not yet approved the required guarantees for the U.S.-led bid to host the 2031 Women's World Cup.
The White House administration is currently looking to push FIFA to adopt the International Olympic Committee's approach, by implementing a stricter policy that would prevent transgender athletes from participating in women's football.
