Algerian Obstacles Bar Olympique Safi Fans from USM Alger Match
The "Ultras Shark" fan group, supporters of Olympique Safi, has expressed strong condemnation regarding the handling of visa applications for fans wishing to travel to Algeria. The fans intended to support their team in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final against USM Alger.
In a strongly worded statement, the group affirmed that the freedom of fan movement is a fundamental aspect of the spirit of sports competitions. They added: "The freedom of fans to travel and attend to support their teams remains an integral part of the spirit and essence of sport. Fans have never been a marginal element, but rather one of its fundamental pillars."
The statement further noted that, similar to a previous match, the fate of over one hundred visa applications remained undetermined, with no response or clarification provided to date. It also highlighted that approximately twenty applications were rejected despite fulfilling all required conditions and documents.
The Ultras Shark group questioned the equality of opportunities for fans, stating: "While the opposing team's fans were able to travel to Morocco with ease, our fans are, in contrast, deprived of their legitimate right to travel and support their team."
The group called on the concerned authorities to provide explanations regarding these issues. They added: "We express our rejection of this unjustified situation and call for clear explanations regarding the reasons for not responding to applications and for rejecting some files."
The statement concluded by emphasizing the principle of equality, declaring: "Let the statement be clear, and let the scales be balanced, not tipping towards one side over another, so that competition remains on the field, not at the doors of consulates."
The match between Olympique Safi and USM Alger is scheduled to take place next Saturday, kicking off at 5:00 PM.
