Will Raja SC Compromise on Demands for Postponed Matches Before Round 16?
The Professional Football League is facing a new dilemma as the second half of the professional league season approaches. The league has yet to announce the schedule for matchday 12, potentially threatening a two-week suspension of competitions if clubs, led by Raja SC, insist on playing all postponed fixtures before the start of the return leg matches.
Raja SC had previously emphasized in earlier communications the necessity of adhering to Article 20, Paragraph 4 of the competition regulations. This article stipulates that all postponed first-leg matches must be scheduled before the start of the second half of the season, with Raja asserting its right to equal opportunities for all clubs.
This firm stance places the League before a real test of its ability to enforce regulations and ensure the fair progression of the championship.
For its part, the League announced on Sunday the schedule for postponed matches from matchdays 10 and 11. However, it has yet to release the schedule for postponed matchday 12 fixtures, raising further questions about clubs' willingness to align with the current second-half schedule.
Should clubs refuse to play matchday 16 before all postponed games are completed, the League might be forced to suspend competitions. This would allow clubs participating in the CAF Champions League semi-finals and CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals adequate preparation time.
The bigger question remains: will Raja SC agree to schedule matchday 16 fixtures before all postponed games are played, or will they maintain their legal position? The answer to this question will determine the championship's fate in the upcoming phase and reveal the League's commitment to ensuring equal opportunities among teams and protecting the integrity of the competition, amidst a sensitive season where the race for top spots and survival intensifies.
