League Faces Two-Week Suspension Threat Over Postponed Matches
The Professional League finds itself in a predicament after failing to announce the schedule for postponed matches from Week 12 of the professional championship. This situation raises the possibility of a two-week suspension of the competition should clubs refuse to play the second-leg matches before all outstanding fixtures are completed. This demand was previously put forward by Raja Club Athletic, which stressed the importance of applying regulations and upholding the principle of equal opportunities among clubs.
On Sunday, the Professional League revealed the schedule for postponed matches from Weeks 10 and 11, but the program for Week 12 fixtures remains unannounced, further complicating the situation. Should clubs persist in their unwillingness to play Week 16 without the completion of all postponed games, the League would be compelled to halt the professional championship. This would allow national clubs adequate preparation time for the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, granting them a week of rest to prepare for the first-leg matches on April 10 and 11, with the second legs scheduled for April 17 and 18.
This situation arises at a critical juncture of the season, with competition intensifying for top positions and to avoid relegation. Any delay or disruption in scheduling the postponed matches places additional pressure on clubs and raises widespread questions regarding the efficiency of fixture management and the commitment to the principle of equal opportunities.
